Definition: Zeitgeist is German and refers to the idea that each period in a society’s history can be characterized by a distinct set of cultural beliefs and practices that establish a certain tone that will be reflected in art, politics, and virtually every other aspect of social life.
Examples:
The 1960s in the United States is thought to have had a particular spirit that distinguished it from what came before and after.
