Pilot Study

Definition: A pilot study is a research project that is conducted on a limited scale that allows researchers to get a clearer idea of what they want to know and how they can best find it out without the expense and effort of a full-fledged study. They are used commonly to try out survey questions and to refine research hypotheses.
