Infant Mortality Rate

From , former About.com Guide

Definition: Infant mortality rate is a measure used by demographers that measures the number of infants who die before their first birthday for every 1,000 births in a given year. Measures of infant mortality are among the best indicators of general health conditions in a population and are often used to estimate overall morbidity and death rates in countries with incomplete vital statistics records.
