New government figures just released show a trend that may not surprise most people: a growing number of firstborns in the United States have unmarried parents, reflecting a dramatic increase in births to cohabiting couples. The analysis was done by the National Center for Health Statistics and is based on data collected from 2006 to 2010. The data shows an 83% increase in the percentage of first births to women living with a male partner between 2002 and 2006.
