Caster Semenya, an elite South African runner, has sparked debate on the issue of gender over the past few years. Semenya came into the spotlight in 2009 after she won gold in the 800 meter run at the IAAF World Championships. She was fast - so fast that many people doubted her gender and accused her of being a male trying to pass as a female in order to win.
